Why Should I Do Anything?
Oracle ‘BI’ tools such as ‘Enterprise Edition’ have been removed from the price lists.
They have been replaced with new Oracle Analytics products. These are the new products which have a published roadmap are being enhanced with new functionality.
There are Cloud, Hybrid or On-premises Options
There is the option to migrate to Oracle Analytics Cloud (OAC). This is an Oracle managed cloud product, for which you can choose to “Bring Your Own Licenses”, if you are currently paying support, or procure a new cloud subscription that is sized to meet your current and future needs.
However, there is also the option to migrate to Oracle Analytics Server (OAS). OAS is a customer managed on-premises version (or private IaaS deployed version) – so likely very similar to your existing BI Enterprise installation.
Customers that have an active support and maintenance subscription are entitled to migrate to OAS.
So with OAS you can remain on-premises with a refreshed Analytics solution whereas with OAC you are completely in the cloud.
Why Would I upgrade from BI Enterprise to Oracle Analytics Cloud?
If you are a ‘cloud first’ organization and desire a modern, cloud-based analytics platform then Oracle Analytics Cloud is the platform to allow you to upgrade existing BI Enterprise content.
Core capabilities such as data modelling and dashboards are retained and so remain familiar to users, whilst also benefitting from many new enhancements. These including new self-service data discovery capability, enhanced data connectivity and preparation, in-built machine learning, etc.
With Oracle Analytics Cloud, you have a roadmap of new features with regular updates and these updates are carried out by Oracle.
Being a cloud platform it is scalable and has the capability to allow you to pause or resize services at any time to meet the needs of your business.
If secure mobile access is critical, then having your analytics available in the cloud could be a defining factor.
Why Would I upgrade from BI Enterprise to Oracle Analytics Server?
If your focus is on-premises (but still may want to move to the cloud at some point in the future), then existing customers who are current on their maintenance and support and using any of the current Oracle BI Suites are entitled to upgrade to Analytics Server at no additional license cost.
With Oracle Analytics Server, you have a roadmap of new features and periodic updates.
If you want a new, modern analytics platform then Oracle Analytics Server provides the platform to upgrade existing BI Enterprise content.
Core capabilities such as data modelling and dashboards are retained and so remain familiar to users, whilst also benefitting from many new enhancements. These include new self-service data discovery capability, enhanced data connectivity and preparation, in-built machine learning, etc.
